Taija Mäkinen
I am director of the Wihuri Research Institute and professor of translational medicine at the medical faculty of Helsinki University. I started my independent research at the London Research Institute, then joined the strong cluster of vascular biologists at Uppsala University and recently relocated to the Wihuri Research Institute in Helsinki, an inspiring environment for conducting cardiovascular research. Our work over the years has led to the discovery of new processes and regulators of vascular morphogenesis and contributed to better understanding of pathologies involving the vasculature.
